The GMC Canyon comes with three engine options 2.9L 4cyl, 3.7L 5cyl and the 5.3L V8. You need to consider many things when choosing the engine. Fuel economy is 16 city and 22 Hwy and goes to 16 city and 21 Hwy for the crew cab. I drove one and they are gutless. I would think based on torque this would be a great off road vehicle with excellent capability. Tow capacity is based on gross vehicle weight and I would not tow more than 3000 lbs with this veh especially into the mountains. If you are at high altitude you should reduce your tow capacity by 10%. I recomend a Sierra with the 4.8L V8 similar mileage and much better tow when you need it. The 5.3L V8 gets nearly the same in some options in the Sierra. Be prepared mileage will be terrible 9/10 if your lucky anytime you tow regardless of engine unless its diesel. Highly reccomend you pay extra for trailer brake so you dont get pushed around on the hills and in city traffic. Also consider anti-sway tow system you'll barely know its there.
