I was out of state one weekend and after a night out my friend was too drunk to drive, i was also a little tipsy but not much. I figured i would drive us back to the hotel, on the way back i ran a stop sign and got stopped. They soon found out i was drinking and arrested me for a DUI. Since i was out in vacation in a state 8 hours away from mine i couldn't go to court. I know now have a warrant for my arrest in that state. My question is what is the best thing i should do. It's been over a year since the incident and nothing has happened. I was planning on buying a car and getting my own insurance, could all that come back up in my home state?

It depends on the state. You could be okay as long as you never go back to that state. But if you want to be free of this and free to travel threw that state and never have to be looking over your shoulder. The best thing is go back turn yourself into that county courts. Clear it up . Pay the fines court costs and do your 2 to 30 days in jail. . Since you used your current state license at some point it will become an issue and could loose your driving previdges. You may end up not being able to renew your license. You taking huge risk everyday. Best thing to do is save up around $2000 go there with family or friends you trust. Plan for a week or two of being there to clear this up . If can afford it hire an attorney to help you so you don't have to stay on that state doing public services and alcohol classes. . A warrant for arrest does not ever go away. There is not a statue of limitations on bench warrants. The more time that goes by without you taking care of this the stiffer the punishment will be. If they catch you and arrest you off the streets it worst than if you go turn yourself in and say I want to clear this up please.
