I have two photos of strikingly similar, non-migratory birds: one in Australia, one in Florida?

The one from Australia was taken in the Hunter Valley and the other on a beach in Naples, Florida. Is it possible that they are genetically related? Is it possible that no one has made the connection?

It sounds like convergent evolution. Sometimes the same traits are so advantageous that they develop independently in completely different species (a bit like a hedgehog and a tenrec which aren't related despite looking the same).
