basically in all of these questions: if the sentence is past tense, the verb must be too. if you get stumped during a test, just choose the one that sounds right to you. if you really need help, get a tutor or ask your teacher for help. here are the answers:

1 A - Unless Ali has a time machine in which case it could be B too. It's A because yesterday is past and ate is the past tense. It's B because he could go back to the past in this time machine and eat his lunch in what is his present. We haven't invented tenses to cope with time travel yet.

2 B - It's "playing".

3 A - Technically correct although it sounds odd to say it like that.

4 B/C - B is correct if he is still doing it. C is correct if he did it in the past. Note both B and C can be correct if both criteria are fulfilled.

5 1/4 - In one, it should be "Friday". In four, it should be "They". Proper nouns are capitalised, as are the start of sentences.

6 B

7 A - Proper noun again. It should be "He speaks good English".

8 A

9 B - It should be capitalised as "I love London". Also London is a pretty dreary place. :P

10 A
