...  35 or 40 years old.  I am puzzled by a comment in my (original) owner's manual which recommends against using multi-grade oils such as 10W-30 when the remperature increases above +32deg F.  Is this a real concern?

I think it Isn't to big of a concern. It depends how you use it. It has a better chance of overheating. So if you plan on plowing, cultivating, Cutting hay.....E.T.C.......That might be a problem . What our farm does is put Multiseason oil. Good Luck
