I got my drivers permit when I was 17, I had tried 4 times and finally got it! I went driving with my dad at least twice a week for at least 45 minutes. A year later I took the driving test and failed terribly (luckily no one was hurt). My permit expired, I tried to renew it, and failed despite spending hours studying. I am now 19 and a college freshman, I do not have the time or energy to study. No matter how I try I fail. At best I end up right back at square 1. What's worse is that i'm 19 so, I have to watch kids 5 YEARS YOUNGER than me get THEIR DRIVERS LICENSE and THEIR PERMITS! I must be RETARDED! It seems almost set in stone that i'll never drive. I think god may hate me. I can no longer take my self seriously, my drive and work ethic are gone, but my efforts never pay off anyway, so, I don't know why it matters! Should I give up? -Embarressed /retarded

Don't be so hard on yourself, miss.
The failure can be diagnosed, and need not necessarily be attributed to lack in theoretical knowledge. Driving is a skill, therefore might vary in mastery rate & peak aptitude per person; mayhap whilst under pressure you're unable to recall your teachings; or get confused in executing the correct manoeuvres (especially complex ones - parallel parking etc).
For each kind of shortcoming, you recreate the optimal environment and practice, most preferably on a daily basis, until reaching a better than passable expertise, to provide some leeway for rusting & exam pressure.
Should you give up? You should ask the question differently. What do you need the license for (or how badly)? How much effort are you willing to invest for that end? If determining it's mostly down to societal pressure, I'd say it's not worth it, and there's no shame in forgoing this rite.
At any rate, you should separate your success in this area from any others in your life. You can be a virtuous & prosperous individual without it - my mother had father parallel park for her as long as I know, every day way back when. One cannot excel at everything, they receive assistance where they don't.
I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling embarrassed about failing your driving test and facing challenges in renewing your permit. It's important to remember that setbacks like these are a normal part of the learning process, and many people experience difficulties when obtaining their driver's license.
Instead of giving up, consider using this experience as an opportunity to learn and improve. Identify the specific areas where you struggled during the driving test and focus on addressing those weaknesses. You may want to practice those skills with a qualified instructor or a trusted mentor to gain more confidence.
Additionally, don't be too hard on yourself. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and obtaining a driver's license is a skill that takes time to develop. It's okay to face challenges, and it doesn't define your ability to eventually become a safe and skilled driver.
If you're having trouble renewing your permit, reach out to your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or licensing authority to understand the specific requirements and steps you need to take. They may provide guidance on how to address the situation and offer resources to help you succeed in your next attempt.
Remember, persistence is key when it comes to learning to drive. Use this experience as motivation to improve, and don't hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or professionals who can assist you in your journey toward obtaining your driver's license.
