I had a friend buy me something on ebay. When the seller sent the wrong product they gave us a free one along with the correct one we wanted. He used his account to purchase it and wrote a letter when they sent the wrong one, but I was the one who asked for it and gave the money for it. Who owns the additional product?

you know he did use his account and he did step up to the plate and wrote the letter and that got the extra product the thing is would you use it or is it something that he could use or is it something only you can use take him out for a meal if its that important and he wants the extra that would be what i would suggest find a way to say thankyou for doing all your hard work for straghtening this out
morally, it is yours. i asked one on my friends to buy me something from duty-free and someone stole the good. off-course I took the loss - the financial position of a friend does not have to be either better or worse after helping. but you should not make a fuss out of it as long as you do not need the wrong product, by the end of the day the friend spent some effort to help - it is as if you paid for a beer to thank him for support. you probably need to be more vigillent though - normally he should have asked you before retaining the product and not 'thanking' by himself, so he might not be such a good friend as you may think
