I found a nest with baby birds in, will the mother come back?

i don't know i have done the same thing before but the babies grew up and flew away anyway, i think the mother is away from the nest more when the babies get older.

Yes the mother bird will come back, by leaving the nest area she was trying to save her chicks.

this situation could go 2 ways: she might come back if she does care for them and you might have scared her away or she might be scared becuz of your scent

She will come back, she only fly away to find some food. Do not come near to the nest again so the mother won't get scared, watch it from a distance.

Maybe you should wait 1 or 2 days and if the mom doesnt come back you should find worms smash them up and nurse them yourself

Most likely, the mother is somewhere watching you get close to the nest. As long as you don't repeatedly go by the nest, the mother will continue to feed her babies. Messing with any birds or eggs can force the mother to feel that her babies are in too much danger, and will abandon the nest.
