I asked him if he wanted to go together to formal and he said we are on different buses though?

Then later in the conversation I said, “even though we are different buses, would you want to hangout at formal?” He goes “I already promised my friend I wohld hangout with her all night because she doesn’t hve a date. I’m so sorry:(“ is that a sign that i should give up on him???? PLEASE tell me!!
