I'm writing a book and I have a question, how would I introduce a mysterious character without giving away his or her gender? I know I can use them and they but I feel like if I say they someone may think its two other characters in my story are doing the action and not this gender less person.

I write books too and I understand what you mean. Say I'm the one writing. I don't want to use them and they to confuse people so we want to give this person a temporarily name.
'The masked person gave me a nerves feeling so I tried to ignore....'
We could say, them, but to ignore that you would say, this masked person or have you character nickname them.
'...I tried to ignore creep over there, but my luck ran dry when creep starting coming my way.'
In third person it's a lot easier.
The masked person looked Jullia's way and unnerved her. She tried to ignore the masked person's stare, but couldn't get past the long back piercing stare she always got from this mysterious person with a mask.
I hope I was of help.
