My boyfriend is 23 years old, about 5'10 - 5'11", and only a little over 120 lbs. He consulted with a doctor in the past about what he could do to gain weight and the Dr. told him that since his metabolic rate is off the charts, he'd have to consume about 10,000 calories per day to even start gaining anything. That's insane! It's an excessively high number and a pretty unrealistic goal. Not to mention very expensive to have to supply enough food to amount to that many calories. Everyone has suggested the obvious - "Just eat a whole lot and work it out into muscle" but that simply has never worked for him. He even went through basic training for the Army when he was 18 and was only able to get up to around 130 lbs to which he said sucked terribly, that he felt horrible trying so hard to eat and work out as much as he could. And it was only temporary. Sitting around doing nothing while eating a lot did not help him gain weight either, in fact he lost weight doing that which doesn't make sense. Does anyone know of any way that he could somehow slow down his metabolism so that he could eat and work out in a way that is remotely normal? I figure if his metabolism could be slowed even just a little bit that could help him get ahead. It's like he is in a race with a bullet train.

His body is demanding high calories. So the simplest ways to increase his body weight are as follows: (a) Reduce protein content from his food . Serve him food with excessive high calories including chocolate, butter, vegetable oils and fruits such as avocado. (b)Avoid manual labour (c)Take weight gaining supplements. Although 10000 calories is very large amount of energy content. If these method doesn't work then consult him another physician. I think he has some liver defects because a hard working man doesn't need more than 3000 calories per day. I think its some serious health disorder.
