I have a masonic jar lid I am going to use to make a homemade egg mcmuffin and I only need to use the ring and not the top part. How would I remove the top?

Its not masonic, it's a Mason jar and the rubber seal ring from the Mason jar lid. It's named after the guy who invented it.
The top and rubber ring are designed to be reused so it can be difficult to remove it. I did it once and I can't remember which item got it out. It was either an old fashioned can opener with the pointy tip or a screw driver. I also tried scissors and almost killed myself so don't use scissors, those darn things slip!
The lid is a separate part. The only reason it would be stuck to the ring is that it is fouled by rotten food. If you really want to use a ring in that condition you can try the usual cleaning methods, which usually lead to buying new rings at the grocery store.
Or you can use a 6 1/2 oz tuna can.
