Dogs shouldn't be in cages unless you get a large one (20x20 ft) in your backyard. If you're just going on vacation and don't want to leave your dog outside in the cold, simply find the biggest one. The bigger the better.

I would say measure the height, length and width of your dog then give them at least 6-10 inches to move around in each direction (if they are going to spend alot of time in it) if it is just for transporting or for "time-outs" then i would say give them 2-6 inches to move around!!!!!
