How to pair Nintendo Switch Pro Controller with a new console?

Hello,

We received a new Nintendo Switch recently with a Pro Controller. The Pro Controller was first paired with our friend's Nintendo Switch console to use at a party. At home we are trying to use the same Pro Controller with our own console, however it isn't working.

The controller was connected to the console via both USB ports, however no lights appear. The SYNC button was also pressed but the controller is still not recognised by the console and no lights appear. The console itself works fine and so do the Joy Con controllers.

Do we need to unpair it from the first console before we can use it? Or is there some way to reset it?
