I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 4 years ago. I had an unsuccessful T&A and start using cpap. That was unsuccessful as well. I stopped using it about 3 years ago as it does not stay on my face no matter how I adjusted it and therefore stopped using it. I requested medication but Dr's cannot prescribe Adderall or Provigil (off-label but often prescribed) for sleep apnea if one is considered "non-compliant". There is a new device that is an implant but I have to have a BMI below 32 to qualify. Being 188 lbs and 5'3'' I have a BMI of 32.8. I need to lose 10 lbs to have the surgery. Unfortunately due to that havoc sleep apnea has on the body I cannot seem to lose the weight. I have tried adkins, paleo, gluten-free, wheat free/sugar free, military, low-cal....all end up gaining weight instead of losing. Even exercise makes me gain like when I did the couch to 5k program that put me in a 3 hour coma everyday afterwards. The only time I ever lost weight was when I worked as a manager at McDonalds and only ate McDonalds food except on my days off. Then I lost 20 lbs. When I quit I thought I would lose weight faster because my diet would change for the better but I only gained my weight back. My thyroid is perfect. I have no other health issues. I'm sure I would lose the weight if I could get my requested prescriptions but I am"non-compliant" and can't. The surgery would make me compliant but can't get till I lose weight. I don't have $1800 to $4000 to go to weight loss center that insurance does not cover. Dr's are not providing weight loss support. So what can I do considering that I have this catch 22 of no proper sleep causes weight gain causes no proper sleep - vicious cycle!!
I have tried weight loss tea and green coffee beans and DE (diamataceous earth) colon cleanses. Apparently sleep apnea affects the hormones, ghrelin and leptin,
