How to link a html website with sql database ?

You didn't give much info. My preference is to use Microsoft SQL Server, and code the website in C# with ASP.NET. There's a new MS language, Razor, that looks like a good way to handle coding the HTML with data insertion, and I'd go with Javascript and JQuery for the client side, with AJAX extensions.
