I really love my friend but, not in the way they think. He recently has told me that he has been having troubles with his family and the last time I talked to him I tried to comfort him but he just got sadder, I really wish I could help him feel better, It's just really awkward with me because I have been feeling attraction to him for the longest time. The second problem is I want to tell him how I feel but it obviously isn't the right time to talk to him about it and also I don't think he is gay.

How you comfort him depends on the problems he's having with his family. The best way to comfort him is to let him know he has someone there to listen. As for letting him know how you feel about him now is not at all the time wait till he gets better, wait until he feels a bit closer to you. If you still like him when this time comes let him know how you feel. If he's not gay then there's not much you can do, if he is than good for you. If it turns out he's not gay, if he's a true friend and worth your time he will still be there for you as you should be there for him.
