There are a few of ways you can backup data.
External harddrives - set up a "server" that backs up all the data from the PCs on a hourly/daily/weekly basis (higher up front cost)
Web Services - Some websites offer backup services, but you have to pay based on how much you space you need (monthly fee, possible initial fee)
Partitions / Internal HD - You could buy a new HD for each computer, and use a program that will create backups at regular intervals. Some new HDs come with the program, or will suggest a program.
Removable Storage - DVDs, Flash drives, etc allow you to create backups, but you usually have to manually backup the data each time, and these are more prone to theft or being lost or damaged.
There are a number of ways of backing up data, but, keeping a back up in portable drives or in some partition of hard drive has become an old fashioned idea. The new era is all about the cloud technology. Use software that offers the facility of backing up secured lockers on the cloud.
