Ok so you might be wondering why I would want to avoid getting tan. First of all, it's my choice, and I would prefer to stay pale and white. I am Filipino, so I tan really easily. I really like having pale pasty skin. I am on the water polo team and the swim team at my school, and I really enjoy it, but I want to maintain pale skin. Is there some way I can make this work?

You may use sunscreen.
If your skin would burn after 10minutes in the sun, applying an SPF15 sunscreen would allow you to stay in the sun without burning for approximately 150minutes. This is a rough estimate depends on skin type, intensity of sunlight & amount of sunscreen used.
For best protection, experts recommend using a minimum ( 2mg/cm2 on skin or about one ounce for full body coverage ) & reapplying every 2hours.
SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays
SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays
SPF 50 blocks 98% of UVB rays

While swimming, wear SPF 50, that is WATERPROOF.
When it the water, you burn easier due to
reflctions of the sun.
In Cancer Council shops, they sell a lot of
things to protect yourself from the sun.
Including sun- proof bathers and other clothing.
As well as using a strong sunscreen.
You could get a floppy hat (similar to Princess
Diana wore) .
A hat with a rim, they're in most department
stores that sell ladies clothing).
If you have Big W, a subsidary of Woolworths.
They help keep the sun off.
Don't go out in the sun between 10am - 2am.
If necessary, use sun protection.
Also wear a long sleeved shirt.
I live in Australia, ee have a lot of sun here.
So, depending on where you are, you choose.
