Tree leaves act as interceptors, catching falling rain, which then evaporates causing rain precipitation elsewhere — a process known as evapo-transpiration.

Trees don't move around much, and "help" depends on what you are talking about. For example, Boy Scouts are cautioned not to set tents under trees because they sometimes drop limbs when they get rained on.
