How reliable is Wikipedia?

Wikipedia has no mechanism to assure reliability. Anybody can post anything there and it is up to other random people to be sure it's correct. In any contentious subject, especially science, one side is presumed to be "consensus" and the other side is presumed to be "nonstandard". There are a lot of subjects where qualified people do not agree on the facts, but always one side is designated "normal" or "accepted" or other words of approval, and the other side is designated "alternative" or "unverified" or other words of rejection. I have not looked up any religious subject. I would expect that to be even worse. The only thing good about Wikipedia is that you can get a thorough overview of every subject. In effect it is a snapshot of the current confusion.
