How is patriarchy manifested in religion and marriage?

Patriarchy seems to have crept into this world due to the power used by men to control women. And due to the weakness of women to accept this overpowering of men. Unfortunately, over the centuries, women have been treated like second-class human beings just like at one point in time slaves were. But today neither is there slavery nor are women undermined by men in many places across the world. Some women fight for their rights but those who continue to let patriarchy rule them either by their religion, their marriage, or their culture continue to be enslaved by it and suffer.
