Interesting question. There are about 230 different types but these include many things which are obviously writing (like the alphabet you are reading this in, or the more efficient Asian symbols which are ideas rather than letters), but also things you may not consider writing (like Braille for blind people to read or morse code or semaphore or sign language).
You could argue that the cave paintings in Lascaux, France are a kind of writing in that they are meant to communicate an idea. You could even say that all art is a form of writing. It's certainly a form of communication.
In short, there's no easy answer, but just counting the kinds of things you and I would consider as "writing", it is about 230.
