How long would it take to get from America to Australia by boat?

I am doing some research for a novel and need to know since such navigation of this scale is way over my head.

An Aircraft Carrier sails from the RAAF Base Darwin in Australia to Fort Washington near Washington D.C. in America. What is the quickest and best route for such a journey? I am assuming they would have to stop to refuel/resupply at some point as well... especially before the returning journey.

(Yeah, I know it would be fastest by air but that's not what I'm asking).

I've got one fort washington in maryland, which is on the other side of the continent from your point of departure; So I suppose your aircraft carrier is a Transformer? Or had you intended to ferry it through the panama canal, cus these guys surely wouldn't mind?
But I digress. Go to google maps, right click and select "measure distance" on the points which are supposed to guide this nautical voyage. Unfortunately oceanic currents, common routes and such useful data have yet to be implemented. The aerial distance is shown to be 16000km, for example. You could look up ocean boat routes to get an idea of these.
