I've been reading up on WWI, and though many British soldiers (officer and enlisted) were de-mobbed in 1919, I have no idea what became of the sailors who were recruited for the war. Many ships remained abroad for years afterward. For example, the HMS Cicala was in Russia for a couple years after the war, then went to China, and the log book doesn't show a lot of sailors coming or going during those years. Were soldiers recruited for the duration of the conflict, and sailors recruited for a specified number of years? I would like to know about both officers and enlisted.
