My mom got sick at her assisted living facility. When you get sick there you have to stay in your room until they clear you. When she got sicker she had to go into the hospital where they found she had HMPV pneumonia. She also had a UTI and they put her on IV antibiotics. After she got back, nurse at the facility said that mom would be cleared when she finished the 3 days of oral antibiotics, but the nurse had a copy of the discharge instructions and could see what the antibiotics were for. I can't find anything on the internet about how long mom is really contagious from the virus that caused her pneumonia?

"HMPV RNA is found in excretions five days to two weeks after initiation of symptoms [43]. However, the extent of contagiousness is unknown since detection of HMPV RNA in respiratory samples from patients recovering from infection does not per se indicate viable contagious viral particles.
