I'm doing research on getting into drones. How many hours does it take — on average — for a new pilot to become comfortable with piloting a drone? Thanks.
How long does it take to become proficient at piloting a drone? (Quadcopter or fixed wing)?

My first drone was a Hubsan X4 and yes I was terrible at flying it at first but I kept practicing. It took me about 6 hours of practice to be able to fly through a specific point without crashing. I really recommend using prop guards when learning to fly they save a lot of props. If your looking to get into UAVs then you need to start small get a 50$ dollar one and practice on it. I recommend getting one without gps because then you learn how to make precise movements and fix your mistakes without a gps fixing it for you. After I had mastered the Hubsan I moved on to a DJI Phantom and when I first lift off I was terrified that I was gonna wreck it. But then I realized the gps helped a lot when you let off the tilt the drone stops on its own and you don't have to rev back the tilt to stop it. It was a piece of cake flying it. What I'm trying to get at here is that you need to start out with a cheap little drone because flying can be stressful when you first start out and you need to learn to be able to deal with the stress and fix it and not freak out. I hope this answered your question. :)
