Hey Flo,
After Bloody Sunday, Northern Ireland was in a state and Catholics were in uproar. They needed a good political movement to follow and support. Because of this, Sin Fein gained popularity in the 1970's - 1980's. Up until then Sinn Fein weren't very significant. Other political parties linked Sinn Fein with the IRA which is why Sinn Fein could be partially responsible.
But there were many other factors that participated too, for example, Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister at this time and created a lot of conflict between Northern Ireland and England which was another major reason why there was a failure to reach an agreement. The wars between Asian countries also made the focus go off the conflict in Northern Ireland and onto said wars.
So Sinn Fein could be blamed to and extent, but other factors contributed as well.
(I am 15 so it should be okay for 14-15 year olds to read)
