What happens when we dream ? What happens in our subconscious ? And what if we realise we are dreaming ? Do we have any control over what we see inside the dream ?

You have a lot of brain activity while you are asleep. You hit 4 stages throughout the night, the deepest one being REM sleep, where all the dreams happen. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams were your unconscious desires, but others discredit this. It's very rare that you can change the course of a dream or are even away that you are dreaming, seeing as you are in the deepest stage of sleep. It is not impossible to change that course of a dream, but definitely not common. The brain's activity slows throughout the first 3 stages and picks back up to the way it is when you are awake during REM sleep. Hope this gave you a little insight!
