How do SSD drives work with regular hard drives?

Drives do not work with each other, they only work with the mainboard. They are all made to work the same way.
In PCs, "drive" only means something that transfers data in a block of fixed size. Anything else is a "device". A device has a name, same as a file name, and transfers data one character at a time. For instance, device names prn, con, nul, lpn, and aux1 thru aux4 are reserved for system use. You can not create a file with any of those names.
