I have an almond tree that I'd like to harvest. Upon research I found that bitter almonds can prove fatal if consumed in high quantities. How do I tell if my tree is sweet or bitter?
How do I tell if my almond tree is bitter or sweet?

I have read that bitter almonds smell of cyanide, which I have no clue how it smells, and has a broader, pointier, shorter nut than the sweet variety. Also I read that the flowers of the two trees have different colors, but my tree is way beyond flowers and is ready to harvest. That being said I have nothing to compare my tree to, so I need a surefire, distinct difference between the two so I don't accidentally die from consuming almonds. Thanks to anyone who can answer me this!
I'm not sure that really helps my situation, I've already tasted it, but what does it taste like compared to sweet almonds?? I'd like to harvest them for eating by the handful, not for the occasional "Taste" if you can understand what I'm getting at.
