Hi,
To help with the recoil of a small gauge shotgun, it is recommended that you hold the rifle correctly, for example; feet spread out with your opposite foot to your trigger hand forward (if you're pulling the trigger with your right hand, have your left foot forward. Visa Versa) From that position lean forward from your waist and pull the rifle firmly into your shoulder so that it's comfortable and secure.
This should help a bit with the recoil, also try not to flinch before pulling the trigger or you will lose the required position.
Another thing that can help is a padded butt/stock. You can get slide on pads from your local hunting/gun shop for relatively cheap. If you ask for a .410 size they should be able to get one for you.
Keep practicing the stance and you will build up a resistance to the recoil, as you get older, bigger and stronger you will find the recoil isn't too bad. This stance can also be used for larger gauge shotguns.
I hope this helps.
