I always took my bird out of it's cage by picking it up. Do you know how to pick it up? And when you take it out have it in your room or something because sometimes when they get out in a wide open space they freak out and their heart rate gets up pretty high. But nothing serious to worry about.
Okay, so you dont have to buy another bird. Get a mirror and it will play with the mirror like another bird, (but it may try and mate with it...). Talk to it and play with it. If you cant hold it then just talk to him lots and hold your hand in the opening of the cage, he will become curious and have a little look. Sing to him and play music. Also let him out to fly around the house. If you dont have a safe house, then close the door to your room, and windows, and let him out in there, birds need to excersie their wings, if you cant get him back in his cage, hold the cage door open with a peg and he will go back in when he is hungry. Dont feed him all the food you eat as some of it isnt healthy. They like grapes, and some other fruit, but lettuce (it gives them a runny tummy) and avocado is
poisonous to them. Put some cuttlefish bone in his cage so he can use that to keep his beak trimmed. and make sure his cage is clean. Doing this will make sure you have a healthy and happy bird.
Honestly it's not that hard. I have a budgie of my own and he's alone. The trick is to give him fresh food and water every day and fresh fruits and veggies. Everyday I take my bird out of his cage for about 4-5 hours or more and just play with him. And no by playing with him I don't mean you have to talk and play and do stuff like that all the time because you both are going to get bored with that. Every day take him out after school and set him on your shoulder while your doing homework, working on the computer, watching a movie or even just texting! They don't take much to entertain. Just remember to play music or something while your gone to keep him entertained and get him lot of toys! Plus, sometimes it's better have just 1 budgie because it strengthens your bond together but if you do get an additional budgie they aren't going to connect automatically. You wil first have to slowly introduce them to each other and keep doing that until they get used to one another. It's like making a new friend it takes time. But have no fear of it dying because it's lonley. Many people around the world have budgies and many of them only have one like me my bird is perfectly healthy and I've had him for a year by himself. Just interact with him everyday and make sure to keep him on a good diet and bring him to an avian vet sometimes for a check up! And if you do decide to still get another bird just keep in mind it's going to be 2x the trouble to clean both messes feed and water both birds bath them both and twice the money too take them to a vet. I'm sorry that my response was so long but I really hope this help!
