I just downloaded a game but when it appeared on my desktop it was a text file with .rar and was full of unintelligible writing in it, is it possible to still play my game?
You need an .rar file downloader. These types of files are kind of like zip files in a way. You pretty much extract the info and it puts it into an accessable file. WinRAR is a good program to use, and it is a free download.
