Okay, so I have really wanted a fish for quite some time, but how do I tell my parents that I want one? I have the space, time, and money for one. What will I need to house a fish? (Preferably a small bowl, not an aquarium.) What supplies will I need? Total cost? Best type of fish to get?

Don't go the beta route. Get a central American ciclid. A Red Devil or a Salavini. They can grow quite large, are very colorful, love live food such as earthworms, goldfish, bugs and insects. Aggressive fish that will grow to be a great pet and affectionate-for a fish.
You will need a 10-20 gallon aquarium, underwater filter and heater. Get used 20$
You will learn how fish growth is related to their environment. How waste is disposed of in a closed system. Understanding of ph levels and it's effect on aquatic growth-the fishe's and other plants and animals. It takes little care, gives hours of enjoyment and when the little guy gets big it's really fun to feed because they get tiny sharp teeth. How much more fun can you have for a 30 $ investment? Trust me you'll love it. When you are asking emphasize the importance of learning and the. education involved.
