How do I fix a key that won't type on a Windows 8?

I have a Windows 8. Recently, I was surfing the web, when the screen suddenly froze. I kept looking on the web for things and I was typing something with the letter "o" in it,but when I typed it, it didn't work! More frustrating, my screen froze again, and I had to type my password, which contains an o in it! I do not want to buy anything because of a broken key. What do I do?

If you're too cheap to fix or replace your broken keyboard, you can use Ctrl-C to copy an O character from an existing document, and Ctrl-V to paste it where you need it.  Of course, that doesn't help with your password.
