In a nutshell, what i want to know is, if how i understand games that update themselves work the way i think they work lol. That was worded a little fuzzy so I am going to put it in simpler words. How do games that are able to update themselves update themselves?
Like is it almost like when your downloading the game, your kind of downloading like a launcher for the game and that launcher updates the game? Now that I am trying to put into words how I think it works I realize, what I thought I knew, I don't lmao. I thought in my head I had at least a basic understanding of how these games update themselves but now that I am trying to explain it, I realize I don't know shit haha.
So if anyone could just explain how video games update themselves, or can it not update without a 3rd party launcher like steam, origin, or the uplay launcher, ect... Because I am think of the FTB (Feed The Beast) minecraft launcher, and when I think of it, its all the same game, but every mod pack is almost like its own game, and the launcher updates them when it is required. Now that I am elaborating about it more, the games that can update themselves, are usually ran with some kind of 3rd party software used to start the game, and some of the game, again now that I am thinking more deeply about it, actually need steam to open the game. Like, you click on the desktop shortcut and it ends up opening steam, also when you try to X out of steam while playing. idk if its any games that require steam to open them but for example lets just say you were playing skyrim and wanted to X out steam for whatever reason, I think, that its says something along the lines of "you need this program to run the game you are playing" not those words exactly but something similar.
Isn't amazing how just thinking on a subject can help you figure some things out about it. None the less, if someone knows exactly how games update themselves i would still love to know exactly how it happens so 100% looking forward to any answers, if you actually read this far in, thank you for your time and hope you have an amazing rest of your life XD (was going to say day but having an amazing life is better than having an amazing day XP lol)
