How do Christians explain the existence of much older religions?

There aren't any, Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship with Jesus Christ. God created the world and everything in it, including you. Christianity is the original "Religion." While there are religions which are nearly as old or claim to be older they are not. Every other worldview/religion has to borrow from the Bible, answer this question for me: can you tell me why we wear clothes? I know it sounds strange, but honestly try to answer that question. Once you reply I'll give you the answer.

You can go to any online bible and look up every occurrence of the word religion. They all stress that it is made up by men, not God.

The only religions that refer to the bible are Jews, Christians, and those that pretend to be related to Jews or Christians. Making up other religions is a part of the human condition. It is called pareidolia.

Christians have no responsibility to explain every stupid question unbelievers can make up. The bible asks Christians to preach the gospel, not to persuade anybody to believe it.

But to give a straight answer to your question, the bible says religions are made up by men telling each other what to do.

There is only one True Religion. The one from the very beginning – the worship of Jehovah God.

All other religions are man-made.

In the beginning Adam and Eve worshipped the Creator, Jehovah. It was only after they rebelled and left Jehovah that things changed. After the Tower of Babel when the languages were confused, men went out and took their own beliefs with them and from then on, the number of religions grew.

However, there is still one true religion on the earth. Those that serve Jehovah God.

I totally agree!

The people of the Old Testament looked forward to Jesus Christ. to be their Savior. When the people of the Old Testament offered a lamb for a sacrifice, It represented God sacrificing his son, Jesus Christ, for our sins. The lamb being offered for sacrifice needed to be the first born and without blemish. Jesus is often referred to as the first born. He also lived a perfect life and was without sin, and therefore had no blemish. Jesus is also referred to as the "Lamb of God. The Old Testament prophets testified of the coming of Jesus Christ and of his sacrifice for us.

When you say the people of the Old Testament were not Christian, you do not understand the people of the Old Testament nor their beliefs. Jesus Christ was born at the meridian of time after the people of the Old Testament, but the people of the Old Testament still worshiped Jesus as their Savior. They didn't call themselves Christian because Jesus Christ had not yet received a name and did not exist at that time.

Jesus organized his Church with Apostles and Prophets (see Ephesians 4). He then called it the Church of Jesus Christ. Followers were called Christians, which is sort of a nick name given them. Christian is not the name of any Church, but is given as a name to those who strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Prophets and patriarchs directed the ordinances of Jesus Christ to the time of Moses.
Then God called Aaron and the Tribe of Levi through Moses and gave them the Aaronic Priesthood (or Levitical Priesthood), which is a lesser priesthood. This priesthood directed the affairs of the Church up to the coming of John the Baptist and of Jesus Christ.

God also gave Moses the Law of Moses, which was a schoolmaster to prepare the Children of Israel for the coming of Jesus Christ. The Children of Israel rebelled and were worshiping false idols and committing whoredoms, and for this were given the lesser law of Moses. Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law of Moses and gave us a higher law of the Gospel.

Before Jesus died, he implemented the ordinance of the sacrament at the last supper. This ordinance replaced the ordinance of sacrifice of the Old Testament. The people were no longer looking forward to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, but looking back in remembrance. Thus, the law of sacrifice was fulfilled. The bread represents the body of Jesus Christ which he voluntarily laid down for us. The wine represents the blood which he shed for us.

Christian beliefs really begin in the Old Testament at the time of the creation and at the time of Adam and Eve. That is why the Christian religions study both the Old and the New Testament. The doctrine and beliefs do not change. The ordinances change to reflect the passing of the meridian of time and of the coming and the sacrifice of our Savior. The laws change to bring us to be more faithful and closer to God.

If you read Genesis chapter 3, you will see the beginning of false religion. And that happened thousands of years before Christ.
