How did developments in technology help early hominids improve their lifestyle and move from?

It wasn't a change in technology but rather the development of farming that lead to a shift from hunter/gatherer to a farm based society. With farming came surplus of production (as well as the development of a workforce and leaders) and thus trade, with trade came a monetary system and thus wealth, with wealth came a need to protect and defend it and thus armies (from the already established workforce) and empire.
