as stated above, this is what happens when i try to edit my comments on youtube. i'm aware at least that this is the html or something for apostrophes, but is there any way i can stop it from happening? it does the same thing with quotation marks, turning all quotation marks into their html form

American Standard Coded Information Interchange (ASCII) is only defined for seven bit binary values. A byte has eight bits, so more alphabets are defined using the high bit to separate them. Some software has a problem with the "high bit" characters, so they use an alternate coding system which they call "Alt-Code". Hold down the Alt key and, on the numeric keypad, type 241 and you get ±. Alt-251 produces √. This goes on to define every alphabet in the world. In plain text (ASCII coded) those tricks are defined by special sequences, & and # followed by decimal digits.
