i have recently started fostering a 1 1/2 year old pit bull from a rescue center not far from my house. i have taken him to the vet because i have noticed a yellowish green discharge from his nose, with a small decrease in appetite, a small sign of depression, and seams very weak. They have told me it can be the on set of distemper or a very server upper respiratory infection, is there any way i can know for sure which one it really is? I have really fallen in love with my dog in the past month and a half that i have had him. can anyone PLEASE HELP!?!?!

This most likely is a major upper respiratory infection...so hang in there I am sure the puppy will be fine!
Hello! First off i want to say thank you for rescuing a pitbull. I do pitbull rescue also and they are very mis-understood breed. and are truly one of Gods best dog breeds living! ANywho... i am very sorry to hear about this situation and this little one not feeling up to par. It does happen with a lot of rescue's when they are not properly taken care of. It does sound like a respitory infection. Or possibly something further which comes from living in poor atmospheres and other contagious dogs. Being you had spoke to your vet is an awesome first step. If the dog has not been medicated. This needs to be done as soon as possible. For if it is a bad bug the dog may get sick to the point of not being able to make it. I don't want to scare you i just want you to be aware that it could be something more than just respitory which will need medication to cure it. Especially if the dog is very weak it might not be able to fight it on its own. When going to the Vet ask to have the dog examined for any internal parisites. and in the mean time keep fresh water at all times for the little one. All you can really do is give TLC in this moment until medication kicks in. try and boost its spirits up by buying tasty treats for him. or toys you see he likes. Try and take him for short'' walks. It is essential for dogs to get out. I had a rescue that was very sick. But i realized how much he perked up when i would take him on a short walk so he could smell the local dogs markings on grass. this made he become more alert and wanting to know what was going on. again if he is really weak.. dont push him too much. Even on a cool day the beach would be nice so he could sense the animals around and get nice fresh air and you could just relax with him. (this could be meditation for the both of you) wait until the sun go's down just a little so it isnt too hot for him. Which even this will make you think... Was he loved before to even make it to the water??? If he is really skinny.. Rice and some chicken will make him happy. settle his stomach also. Best of luck! and good work!
thank you for replying but i hate to say i had to put him down 4 days ago :( he did have distemper he stayed with the upper respiratory infection an also had a large amount of fluids in his lungs, i was hoping for the best but it was starting to hurt seeing him suffer day after day. i also had to put down one of my other dogs since the have caught distemper from him and started twitching real badly. now my parents will not let me get another pitbull while i am living here :(
i have been to 2 different vets and both said the same thing and only per scribed antibiotics, n told me to wait it out and see if it gets better. n that was 4 days ago
