I am a depressed person and there are constant issues. I am confused on why, when I am upset, I tend to hold my emotions in. I try my best to make myself cry but I can't, I've tried a lot of things but my emotions still seem to just bottle up inside me to the point I end up cutting myself. Please I need help.

First get a bottle of B-100 pills. The first line of defense against depression and anxiety is B vitamins. Vitamin B2 is a water soluble dye that turns urine bright yellow. When the color fades, it's time for another dose. Read some books about nutrition so you know how to eat right.
Second, take acting classes. Most of what we call emotions are habits. You had to learn what to respond to and how to act in each situation, so you can change your habits by learning new ways to act. Concentrate on vocal skills, such as story telling.

You know what's wrong so why are you asking us what to do?
You are depressed. Get into therapy and find out why you are afraid to express emotion. What do you think is going to happen if you get angry or sad? What disaster do you think will befall you if you cry at a movie or tell someone they hurt your feelings or tell someone you don't want to go to a concert?
Depressed people are not functioning on the same level as everyone else. Take antidepressants and bring yourself up to the same level and I highly suspect you'll start feeling emotions.
It's pretty much as simple as that. Two things you can do. How much effort you expend in therapy is up to you. If you want to function like everyone else you'll work hard.
Good luck.
Thank you
Bottling it up ain't always bad but u have to realize how to put in on the bottom of the bottle ,think positive ,approach everything with a smile, open all ur curtains ,sunlight in the best mood stabilizer for me,one last thing remember someone somewhere has it way worse....get better
We have a choice - we can choose love or hate, faith or doubt. We have a choice to choose our emotions. And when we are on a spiritual quest, we realize we are not this body and mind that can become negative, that suffers. Spirituality opens the door to the truth, it helps us overcome ignorance. Therefore, a spiritual journey will help us in building positive emotions. And it will take us beyond that, it will liberate us from misery and sorrow as it unites us with the Divine.
Thank you
