I want to find a connection with God. I pray to Him every night saying that when I die, I want to go to Heaven. He doesn't answer, and I'm afraid that He won't ever listen.

Even if you didn't believe in God, he still loves you. You don't need to read an entire bible or go to every church service or whatever:) you just need to tell the lord that all you want is to trust him. If you pray every night and tell him you put all of your trust into him (and mean it) it will make a huge difference, like weights being lifted off your back. God makes everything happen for a reason, he most likely wants you to be closer to him and trust that he will guide you to making the right choices.
You can get closer to God through nature, because nature is the only thing that stays true to how God first created the world. Also, God is not a He, or a She- God is a spirit, within us and around us in nature. Accept and acknowledge this, and your ears and eyes will be open to the true voice of God. You get closer to God through the happiness of others, yourself and nature. If you notice the loud song of a bird or a butterfly that visits your garden everyday, these could be simple signs that God is with you and willing to help you through your life. If you help the universe, the universe will help you.
You no doubt agree that the Bible contains God’s message for mankind in general. Bible also convey how you in particular can draw closer to Jehovah in a relationship with him.—James 4:8, Heb. 4:12; Jas. 1:23-25
For us to draw close to Jehovah, however, it is essential that we study with the right objective. John 17:3 says: “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” our objective should be not merely to take in knowledge but to come to “know” Jehovah better as a Person.—Read Exodus 33:13; Ps. 25:4.
Because there are so many Religions out there it is complicated and confusing to understand what the bible teaches. The book "What Does The Bible REALLY Teach" will help you get to know him and his purpose for the earth and mankind. It will help you to have a close relationship with him. You will also get to know how he answers prayers.

You can get closer to God by stopping and being silent, by stopping to believe in the lies that you have been taught, such as God lives somewhere far away on a distant planet in heaven. Read the scriptures in the right manner. The scriptures say, the kingdom of God is within - Luke 17:20-21; that God lives in the temple of your heart - Corinthians 3:16. When God is inside your heart, when God is in every atom of your body, how more close to God do you want to get? Unfortunately, we are looking outside all our ‘doors’, our eyes, our ears, are all looking outside. We have nine doors that look outside, we need to open the tenth door that looks within, then we will find God within. We are very close to God, God is very close to us, we must realize this Truth.
