I'm going to be starting the IB curriculum there; basically grade 11 and 12. I'm wondering about the malls, schools and most impostantly people. I've heard several things about Egypt and its society, but I can't make any assumptions until I see it. However I would love to hear opinions and what others have experienced in New Cairo. Also, what IB schools would be recommended?

Hi, I am from egypt i can say there is much difference in the facilities between dubai and egypt but people are kind and sociable you would make a lot of friends, the malls and streets means of transport are less developed than dubai but schools are excellent I think you wouldn't regret getting your curriculum from there,I hope i have been helpful :)
Hi,
I was in the same shoes as you,a foreigner coming to study her highschool qualification here.
I would highly recommend "cairo english school",its facilities are quite developed and spacious.
In terms of malls and shopping places there are basically thousands.Large malls such as Arab Mall,City star are quite nice.
What you need to know about egyptian people is that they are very curious and chatty so you wouldn't have a problem finding friends,at school that is.As you will be attending an IB school, people will be more civil that those you meet at the street or anywhere else.I would just try to be careful with who i talk to as Egyptians are quite sly and deceptive especially if they find out you are a foreigner. So a few Arabic words in the egyptian dialect will be helpful.
Another thing,if you want anything done here you have to tip,its the way to move things right for you.
If you are a girl expect to be harassed at the street, but its much less now as the president implemented some serious laws regarding that.
But you will find hilarious things here,it will be an interesting journey.
I hope you benefit from this.
The best of luck.
