... the past.
Looking at light before it has ever reached us on Earth.
That means you can see so far out in space that a star can presumably appear that has already blown up 1000's upon 1000's of years ago.
Then what.... do you just play with the zoom at the speed of light back and forth to watch that star blowing up over and over again.
That would be one thing that is faster than the speed of light... "Looking through a telescope" ??
How about when you are looking through the most powerful telescope. They say you are looking into?

"They" say a lot of incredibly stupid stuff. When you look at a star the light you see might be very old, but that does not mean you are "looking into the past". It means you see something that existed a long time ago and we have no clue what it looks like now. "They" can not be trusted to tell the truth about anything. For instance "they" will tell you that a star is some exact distance away. The truth is the longest ruler we have is the width of the Earth's orbit. By carefully measuring angles we can actually measure distances out to about 3200 light years, and beyond that we are guessing. Highly scientific guessing, of course, but still guessing. "They" will shout insults at you if you ask about that.
