Highest Gallantry Award in India?

The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India's highest military award for the highest degree of valour or self-sacrifice in the presence of the enemy.
It is the Indian equivalent of the Victoria Cross and the name literally means 'Wheel of the Ultimate Brave".
Since 1947 there have been 21 recipients of the medal, 14 of these posthumously.
