... not got to my PhD unlikely to have been studied in depth,
Basically, I love space, I also love volcanology and terraforming and would be very interested in what other peoples thoughts are on this.
Basically my hypothesis is that a volcano can be created down to human intent, so we find a planetary body in the universe for example with a liquid core, we drill down in several places across the body, and release create several very highly powered earthquakes at various depths of the core. In chain the energy produced from these events would warm the core further. Eventually a volcano forms and gasses and heat are released in massive massive quantities, an atmosphere builds up and the terraforming has commenced to the next step. We begin colonises the body with specfic plants capable of surviving in the conditions available and start converting the gases in the atmosphere to oxygen etc. And then we can introduce a range of bacteria and build up to actual conditions capable of sustaining human life. Now, this is a very far fetched unproven hypothesis.
But the research I'm hoping for will prove that at least some of this is possible. Obviously as it stands our understanding and capablility to terraform is very limited but we can't obviously transport gasses to create an atmosphere throughout space
But there must be gas pockets inside all planets with a liquid core surely.
I think the most difficult part will be finding a way to increase the strength of gravity so the it can actually hold onto an atmosphere without the gases just escaping off into space
What are your thoughts?
