... leap is about 37 in. I know that I need over 40 in. To dunk a basketball but my legs are insanely skinny. Can I still build enough explosiveness to dunk with really skinny legs?

Basically what I do is I stretch a lot. That always helps me jump higher. Doing some calf and leg exercises will help, as well as core.
If you want to dunk then you got to be strong enough. I hope this helps.
One more thing: Try hopping up in the air off your toes.
Hint: Hopping will look like you're doing a calf raise.
So here's the tips I got for you.
Tip 1: Eat healthy
Tip 2: Don't overdue the workouts on legs or core, but do some everyday.
Tip 3: Jump harder off your toes when you run.
Tip 4: Squatts will be most effective in some ways. I read this online that squatts can help you. I might recommend doing ab and core exercises a lot often to.
Let me know what you think of my answers.
Again I am 15 years of age but I am 6'3 to. And you would be impressed that I can dunk at my age.
My leg broke with a compound fracture 3 inches above the ankle. That's why I do not recommend one foot. Because the thing is I learned that it catches you off balance easily. But again buddy I am not trying to discourage you. If dunking is your dream work for it man and go for it. I will support you everyday of the way.
I am just warning you how dangerous dunking can actually be. Another warning is if you land wrong you could break your back like I almost did. That is why I recommend jumping off two. Because for one two does not catch you off balance as easily as one will. And for two you will land safely more easily.
One more thing buddy, the reason I say for you to do ab and core exercises is because a good flat stomach gives you balance. But here is what I recommend: Don't jump off one foot, it is really dangerous, and the reason I said this is because I have had a really bad compound fracture a year ago from dunking off one foot. And I almost died because of the surgery: The reason I am saying this is there was something about this surgery that gave me respiratory and breathing problems. So I recommend jumping off two if you're not built enough. I am built now but I was injured bad when I jumped off one. I was injured so bad that I could not play basketball for almost 15+ months.
