Okay, Well I'm an 17 year old male around 5'11 and 114 pounds, Today my sister and a few of our friends came over to hang out, We always do reckless things around our town. Well today Mike (a friend of mine, and my sister boyfriend) 'tried' to show my sister how to ride one of ours dirt-bikes. Meanwhile I'm over with a group of my friends. Well out of no were 'BANG' my sister lost control for the dirt-bike and slams it right into the side of my body! and holy crap! that hurt so bad.
So we had to call our mother to take us to the hospital, but she didnt want to pay the hospital bill so we visit the local doctor today in the afternoon, My sister had minor injuries but she fine. then the doctor tells me "Hun, you have a broken rib but other then that nothing but a couple of bruises that will heal in a few days, just take it easy on that rib"
...What the hell!? I have a broken rib! and your not even telling my mother to send me the hospital! what kind of doctor is that? Was that even right for that doctor to do that?
Its painful when I breathe. I cant even sleep cause it hurts, Im restless! someone help me out!
HELP ME! I think I need to go to the hospital!!?

Sorry, but the DR did the right thing. There is no treatment protocol for a broken rib, They don't even wrap them anymore, it's somrthing you just have to live with until it's healed, usually 4-6 weeks. You might be helped by some low to medium pain medication, most physicians just tell you to take something non-narcotic like Motrin or Alleve. IF you just can't take it go tto a pain management clinic, though they're usually reluctant to prescribe narcotics for a rib, it's an injury you live with, rest, no real bodily activity, sleep, and willpower. My 86 yr old neighbor broke three ribs in a car accident and she just stuck it out, Alleve and a recliner with ice bags. She's fine now. They're not any fun but they're not life threatening either.
Breaking a rib can be extremely painful and uncomfortable. There is virtually nothing you can do to help it along except rest and stay off of your feet. There is no possible way that the bone can be reset or fixed. If you have a broken rib, you will experience swelling and pain in the ribs where the bone is broken. In addition, coughing, sneezing or breathing deeply can cause terrible pain. You may also experience pain if someone presses on your rib cage.
In some instances, doctors will bandage you or give you a rib wrap to keep everything in place and to protect the area from being hit accidentally
Well actually it can be deadly but in your case, probably not.
