My thighs tighten up when I run and start to hurt. Is it because I haven't ran in a while?

yes it is because of that does your doctor didn't tell you to undergo therapy to regain your muscles strength ? When our muscles is not use in quite sometime it looses its strength and feel numb so we need to train it again slowly you should make it a step by step process so you will not damage your muscles again. Take it to walk everyday and so on until it get backs to its natural strength and you can get back it to running
